Paying Off Debt Without Giving Up Your Lifestyle 5 Crucial Steps
Paying Off Debt Without Giving Up Your Lifestyle 5 Crucial Steps Given that you have taken the time to click on this article, is it safe to say that youre in debt? Youre certainly not alone From home mortgages and student loans to purchases made on credit cards or through other lenders, many of us have borrowed money to at some point. Whether you owe a minimal quantity or sizable sums, the reality is that you will have to pay back your loan debt in full at some juncture (not forgetting interest, of course). It is intimidating to face any balance, especially when the payment plan covers a span of decades. Though you may feel trapped by debt and destined to a life of scrimping and saving just to pay off your loan debt, you dont have to let short- or long-term debt consume you. As you strive both to repay money you owe and maintain some of a semblance of your lifestyle, keep ansicht five tips in mind.1. Dont fear the b word. The first step in paying off debt of any kind has to be creatin g a budget. Shake off the cringe you just experienced hearing that word, shatter all the negative connotations you associate with it, and reconstruct your overall approach to budgets. They are key to becoming debt free. Think of them as frameworks that not only align with your individual financial situation but also inform and guide your short- and long-term goals. While many people falsely perceive following a budget as restrictive, the process actually provides freedom within the structure that you give yourself. How do you begin to put together a budget? It may seem intimidating, but you can easily get advice and tools from a simple internet search or talking with a trusted friend or family member. In hardly any time at all, you can get your hands on a template and be off and running. Depending on your personality and financial situation, though, you may find using a template to be frustrating. In this case, it might be most helpful to departure from scratch and build a budget to fit your specific needs. This operation will take time and effort upfront, but it will absolutely expedite your budgeting ordnungsprinzip moving forward. Most importantly, remember that a budget is a living document once created, it does not have to remain in its initial form. Its purpose is to help you take charge of your spending and saving, but dont hesitate to let it evolve with your fiscal life and tweak it accordingly.2. Personalize your payments.Whether your budgeting format is borrowed or an original, you will have to customize it somewhat in buchen to reflect accurately your individual money situation. transsumpt categories that parallel the reality of your own income and expenditures, as well as your need to pay off debt. You cant effectively budget without knowing where your dollars come from and where they go One straightforward path to directing kenntniserlangungs toward debt payoff is first to make cutbacks in other spending areas. Determine which nonessential (enterta inment, eating out, impulse buys, etc.) expense categories are your vices and focus on limiting corresponding purchases. Extra money you save in those categories can be earmarked to pay off debt. Youll be amazed by how reducing spending on some of those fluff items can save big bucks without stepping on your game too much.Depending on the agency, you can personalize your debt payment and strategically factor it into your budget. Many student loan collection corporations, for example, offer the option of enrolling in a plan that automatically increases your monthly payment total every few years. This program assumes your income level will rise over the course of your career, which will equip you to afford graduated payments and pay back your student loan debt at a faster overall rate. If your professional field doesnt produce a steady income climb, you might prefer a different plan that requires static monthly payments and then choose to contribute larger sums only when youre able.Re gardless of the type of debt youre in, dont let the notion of paying it off in full in the shortest time frame dominate your budget and interfere with your day-to-day life. Of course, repaying debt is a nonnegotiable that you will have to do eventually, but other sources of spending in your life are just as vital and cannot be neglectednamely, residence, utilities, food, and healthcare. Make debt payments that take into account your personal circumstances (income level, essential expenses, marital and parental status, etc.) and allow you to fund all your essentials and adequately provide for yourself and your loved ones. Just because someone you know is able to pay off a debt in a given window of time doesnt mean that same plan is the right choice for you.3. Let your debt snowball.Sounds counterintuitive, doesnt it? Renowned financial expert and debt-free life enthusiast Dave Ramsey coined the snowball method, a debt reduction strategy that centers around escalating motivation and s hrinking money owed. Its intent is to pay off debts in order of smallest to largest, gaining momentum each time a balance reaches zero. When the least significant debt is paid in its entirety, you roll the money that had been allocated for it into the next smallest balance. This method is effective in eliminating debt in a logical and feasible manner. Simply list all your non-mortgage debt from smallest to largest and make the minimum payments on each, except your smallest, of which you pay as much as possible. Repeat this system until each debt is compeltely repaid. In order to implement the snowball approach, you must have resources available to make the maximum payments on the focus balance, which will technically be your least amount for the time being but still more substantial than the one you just paid off and only a fraction of the ones on deck. Freeing up funds to pay off the current and upcoming debts might force to you to make sacrifices in other spending areas. Think back to those nonessential categories and eliminate anything that you really dont need or can live without in the present for the sake of reducing debt. Again, dont go overboard and adopt unhealthy or unsustainable measurestake on only what is reasonably achievable for you.4. Avoid digging more holes. If youre already in debt, whether you owe an inconsequential amount to one debt collector or several weighty bundles to multiple institutions, youre best off working to pay back what you owe while not incurring any more balances in the meantime. You may feel oppressed by reining in your spending power, but choosing not to borrow money doesnt mean you have to settle for a bare-bones lifestyle. In fact, more frequent, smaller-scale purchases can bring greater satisfaction than occasional but still over-the-top expenditures that max out credit cards. Differentiate between needs and wants, and prioritize each groupingyoull feel at ease dropping manageable dough on time-sensitive must-haves, as opposed to going into debt for luxuries that can wait or are altogether dispensable.Need a new car, for instance, amidst paying for a combination of other debts? Instead of going in the hole again and having to make monthly payments on a new model, consider a preowned, older version that is just as reliable, just with fewer bells and whistles, for which you can save up to pay cash upfront. Youre still fulfilling a need and making a necessary purchase, but youre being conscientious and not sinking further into the red. Practicality does not have to equal deprivation5. Treat yoself. Its no secret that a surefire way to accumulate money to repay debt is to reapportion what you spend on those oh-so-tempting yet ultimately nonessential items. Dont feel like you have to go without a Target spree or Starbucks stop forever, though Establish an incentive system that will periodically reward and, therefore, continuously motivate you along the road to debt payoff. Think of budgeting like dietin g permitting yourself to have cheat meals is crucial to staying on track toward your goal weight. If you withhold indulgence for too long, youll be much more inclined to give up the diet altogether in one fatal, chocolate-covered move. The same mindset applies to debt repayment. Depriving yourself of purchases you enjoy might eventually break you and cause you to go on a spending frenzy, which will derail your budget and negate the progress youve made in paying off debt. Come up with options for sensible yet gratifying prizes to buy for yourself each time a debt balance reaches zero. Youll experience all the purchasing pleasure you crave to propel you to the next reward while not having to worry about jeopardizing your overall finances. The GistDebt doesnt have to paralyze your lifestyle Start with a budgeting framework that fits your daily fiscal reality, and dont be afraid to adjust it as needed over time. However you choose to budget, you will have to make some sacrifices, but reme mber that the process is all about prioritizing expenditures and determining what is truly most valuable in the grand scheme. Above all, dont compare yourself to anyone else. You cant possibly know the nuances of other peoples financial situations, and fretting about what this coworker or that friend is doing or feeling sorry for yourself wont help you in reaching your monetary goals. Find a system that works for you and your family to live comfortably within your means while also working toward debt payoff. Consider how you might execute the five tips explained here as part of your approach to debt, and you can find freedom within the hole--Hi, there Im Allie Hofer,an HR professional and work-life balance enthusiast. The 10 Most Exciting Trends for Women in 2014 [Pt. 2]
The 10 Most Exciting Trends for Women in 2014 Pt. 2 In the first part of this article we talked about how 2014 is the Year of the Woman, and with the help of prominent thought leader, speaker and accomplished author Dr. Tracey Wilen, we listed five of 10 exciting trends for women this year. They were Women sharks on the rise (increase of women-owned businesses)Women in the drivers seat (mora female CEOs)Young firms offering jobs for womenWomen going for the gold andWomen becoming tech headsRead on to discover the final five fruchtwein exciting trends and why 2014 will be such an influential year for the ladies.Trend 6 Money-making MusiciansYou noted that women can sing and dance all the way to the bank. What do you mean by that?I recall growing up that there were predominately male bands and musicians on the radio, TV, etc. and very few women. Interesting enough today two women Madonna (age 55) an d Lady Gaga (age 27) are the highest paid of all women and men in music and there is a pipeline of women following them such as Taylor Swift, Beyonc, Rihanna, Katie Perry, Pink, etc.The point is that women have many options and can and have achieved in multiple areas. I am excited about shows (e.g. American idol) that help emerging artists gain visibility and technology (streaming, YouTube,) where artists can promote themselves.Trend 7 Woman-to-woman marketingWhy is it essential to have mora women marketing gurus?I read some interesting statistics on how much spending power women have in the U.S. (85% of all purchases) and yet how many felt that they were being mis-marketed (91%) to because it was men in marketing, not women. A recent case and point I think the move of Mary Barra shows that GM knows that women buy cars.Women buy more than half of the new cars in the U.S., and influence up to 80 percent of all car purchasesWomen spend over $200 billion on new cars mechanical servici ng of vehicles each yearAnd we are landseeing the trend of women having powerful positions at Advertising firms, as creative directors and key consumer influencers in a number of sectors. This is extremely important to reduce the amount of mis-marketing because women control over $20 Trillion in worldwide spending.Women are earning, spending, and influencing spending at a greater rate than ever before, accounting for $7 trillion in consumer and business spending in the U.S.Women account for 85 percent of all consumer purchases, including everything from autos to healthcareWomen influenced $90 billion of consumer electronic purchases in 2007Trend 8 Women are financially independentWhat do you mean by Beyond the bling? I think women understand and are concerned about money, investments, savings more than just buying bling. I think women understand the importance and value of financial independence. In the interviews conducted for Women Lead (Peter Lang, 2013) we found that many women had strong mothers as role models who emphasized financial independence and self-sufficiency.And MediaPost offers some very powerful stats when it comes to women and financesThe average American woman is expected to earn more than the average American male by 202851 percent of U.S. private wealth is controlled by womenWomen account for over 50 percent of all stock ownership in the U.S.Women control more than 60 percent of all personal wealth in the U.S.Over the next decade, women will control two-thirds of consumer wealth45 percent of American millionaires are women60 percent of high-net-worth women have earned their own fortunesTrend 9 Women are hitting the booksYou state that women are Smart cookies. What do you mean by this and why is it important? In the U.S., the trend is that women are becoming more educated than men. For example, women earned 10 million more college degrees than men since 1982 (61.6 percent AA degrees, 56.7 percent bachelor degrees, 59.9 percent masters degree s, 51.6 percent doctors degrees). The pipeline of women with education is exceeding the pipeline of men and we will see that women will have more options than men as the demand for an educated workforce continues to increase.Trend 10 Breaking through occupational barriersWhat other professional areas do you see where women will excel?I think women area making breakthroughs in a number of professional areas such as doctors, lawyer, accountants, etc., and a key factor is working in environments that support integrative lives for women and men so that people can have successful careers and families. For example, the physicians I interviewed for Women Lead (Peter Lang, 2013) noted that many women are pursuing medicine because there are part-time options, which make more sense for familiesOn the finance side, I see a lot of opportunities for women as many finance recruiters confided that firms are seeking executive female leaders for finance roles because they are perceived as more trustw orthy than men. I would suggest that women are not your average bean counters. Why is 2014 the breakout year for women?History accelerates future momentum. 2012 was a record year for women running for congress. In 2014 I think we will see the pattern sustain or accelerate. Also, 2012 and 2014 were record years for women in sports (Olympics). There are increased expectations of younger women and role models will help. We will see more women pursue CEO roles as we have role models from Marissa Meyer (younger age), to Ursula Brown, to Indra Nooyi (Pepsi), to Meg Whitman, to Marry Barra. Women are sharp if they can see a role model that is like them and make it more tangible. We have a number of key female leaders at technology firms (Marissa Meyer, Sheryl Sandberg, Meg Whitman, Ursula Brown) this excites me because we have women who can show women the way in technology, and I think this will help more women pursue technology fields as they are already fast adopters.

Health Insurance for Unemployed Workers
Health Insurance for Unemployed WorkersHealth Insurance for Unemployed WorkersOne of the biggest concerns for unemployed workers, besides the loss of a paycheck, is the loss of health insurance. Health insurance is very important to have, but it can be expensive. What options for health insurance coverage are available, and how can you access health insurance coverage when you have lost your job? Know what your options are so that you can select a form of health insurance that works for your situation. Company-Provided Health Insurance If youre laid off, your employer should review the benefits you are entitled to receive when you leave employment. Ask your employer about your eligibility for continuing to stay on the companys health plan through the federal law COBRA. According to COBRA, if the company you are leaving has over 20 employees, it is mandated by law to offer health insurance coverage to terminated employees for at least 18 months. COBRA applies to employees who volu ntarily or involuntarily leave their jobs, or who stay at a company but lose their insurance (due to changes in their hours, for example). The benefit of COBRA is that you can stay on your current health insurance plan, which means you can see the same doctors you have been seeing. However, the downside is that you need to pay for this coverage (plus an additional administrative fee). Keep in mind that you have a 60-day window of time to enroll in COBRA after you leave your job, so look into this option quickly. In some cases, employers will pay for coverage for a limited time as part of aseverancepackage. Therefore, it is important to talk to your employer (or your companys human resources department) before you leave, so you know what your coverage options are. The Affordable Care Act Under the federal law the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), unemployed workers can also find health insurance through the governments Health Insurance Marketplace. The Marketplace provides individ uals a way to purchase health insurance. Normally, people need to apply for health insurance in the Marketplace during a particular enrollment period. However, if you leave a job outside of the normal enrollment period, you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. This means that, once you leave your job, you have a 60-day enrollment window to shop and enroll in a health plan through the Marketplace. Your health insurance options (and costs) will vary depending on your income and household size. Check With Your State Before deciding on an insurance plan, check with your state insurance department. Some states have people apply for insurance through the federal Marketplace, while other states have a state-based marketplace. If coverage is available through your state, the cost of the coverage (and the ability to participate) usually depend on your income and the number of people in your family. More Insurance Options If you lose your job or are otherwise unemployed, there are a few other options for finding health insurance. Below are some options you can look into Medicaid provides free or low-cost health insurance to some people based on particular factors. People who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), also commonly known as welfare, automatically qualify for Medicaid. Other people also may qualify based on their income and resources for example, low-income people, pregnant women, the elderly, people with disabilities, and others qualify. Find out if you qualify for Medicaid.TheChildrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a free or low-cost health insurance plan for children that qualify. Find out whether your children qualify for CHIP. If you are under 26 and unemployed, you can get on your parents insurance plan. Qualifying children need bedrngnis be full-time students or dependents.Insurance companies and various schools alumni association may offer temporary insurance in your state.Unions, trade associations, and members-only warehouse clubs like BJs Wholesale Club and Costco may also offer various forms of health insurance. Tips for Finding Health Insurance When Unemployed There are also other health insurance options available. Steve Trattner, President and Chief Marketing Officer of Cinergy Health, shares his health insurance tips for unemployed workers Talk to your employer. Before leaving your job, make sure you talk to your employer in detail about your benefits (including insurance) to get a sense of when these will end. This information will help you make a decision about what kind of insurance you will need.Start shopping for individual insurance early. Insurance is complicated, and you dont want to make a rash or uneducated decision. Start early so that you can thoughtfully weigh your options. You also dont want to start shopping late, because you might end up uninsured for a brief time period. This can be both dangerous and costly. Avoid paying a penalty. Another reason to shop for insuran ce early is that you have to make a payment to the federal government (also known as a penalty, or individual mandate) if you dont have what is considered qualifying health coverage. For any month you do not have insurance, you will have to pay. There are exemptions depending on your circumstances (including your income), but this is just another reason to avoid going without health insurance for any period of time.Have your information ready. Whether you are applying for COBRA or going on the federal or state Marketplace, you will need to have some information ready. Be sure you know your income and the number of dependents in your household. You may also need your Social Security Number, tax information, and information about your current or previous health insurance plan. Evaluate health plan optionsbased on your individual (or family) healthcare needs. For example, health insurance plans might permit you to select a high deductible, say $5,000, in order to get a very low afforda ble premium. This schriftart of plan will provide coverage if you face a catastrophic medical event but isnt going to cover your routine and predictable healthcare needs. There are also short-term plans available that expire at the end of a 6 or 12-month term and cost much less than major medical plans. Think about what plan will work best for you. Choosing a policy that doesnt include several treatment facilities is also an optionto lower your premium rates. There are low-cost, limited medical plans that provide coverage for an individuals more immediate needs, like routine doctor visits and short-term hospital stays, without a deductible. Review Options Its important to know that you have limited time to decide on health care options, so carefully review options for maintaining coverage as soon as possible after your employment terminates. The information contained in this article is not legal advice and is not a substitute for such advice. State and federal laws change freque ntly, and the information in this article may not reflect your own states laws or the fruchtwein recent changes to the law.

Theory X and Theory Y to Pick the Best Management Style
Theory X and Theory Y to Pick the Best Management StyleTheory X and Theory Y to Pick the Best Management StyleIf the last time you thought about finding and using X and Y welches your high school algebra class, you probably havent heard about the Theory X and Theory Y management style. Developed in the 1960s by Douglas McGregor in his book, The Human Side of Enterprise, Theory X and Theory Y allocate the job of management into two styles. And, just like your algebra class, X and Y dont work totally independently, although you can manage in a style that is mostly a Theory X or Theory Y management style. Your management style evolves as you gain cues from your work environment, the type of work you need to accomplish, the locus of control of your workforce (intrinsically driven or externally), the strength and talent of your workforce, and your ultimate beliefs about how people are motivated. The variables explain why in some situations, you will find the Theory X management style more effective. In others, you will find the Theory Y management style necessary to lead people. In yet a third setting, a combination of the two management styles will help you achieve your goals. Here is what you need to know to understand and apply both the Theory X and the Theory Y management styles. Theory X Management Style The underlying idea with Theory X management style is that humans are inherently lazy and will only work if the manager is forcing them to work. Without a manager standing there saying, get back to work, bedrngnishing will happen. This style makes the assumption that humans only work because they have to work, so the motivation to work must come from an external source- the manager. Theory YManagement Style In Theory Y management style, people gain self-worth from doing meaningful work. If the work is fulfilling, the employees will do a good job because its important to them. You can see how these two theories can conflict and yet have a lot of crossove rs. Its possible to have both situations true for a manager, depending on the job and the person. Some people are lazy and some are motivated by the desire to do a good job. The question is, how can you, as a manager or HR manager, use these theories to make your company a better place to work? What Type of Work Do You Do? Some work is boring. It is. Its why it is called work. Many things that make the world go round are boring and tedious. You may think that this type of work calls for you to apply the Theory X management style. The only reason people take these jobs is that they cant find anything better and they would rather do anything other than that work. Therefore, theyll slack off if youre not standing there with a proverbial whip in your hand to get them into shape. Many screaming and frustrated managers agree with this concept. Seriously, how many times do you have to tell your employees to get off their phones and back to work? Change the Value Proposition to Gain Employee Commitment But, stop and think about the value of what youre really doing. If the work didnt have value, people wouldnt hire your business and youd be out of business. So what value does your business bring? Lets say your company provides janitorial services. Cleaning a toilet isnt terribly inspiring. But, if you look at the great public health service you provide, you might develop a different viewpoint with your employees. That type of description sounds like a valuable job. Additionally, if you focus on how doing a good job here can lead to better opportunities in the future, you may be able to change your employees internal motivation. From X to Y. Many white collar jobs seem to fall under Theory Y management style. People want to be engaged, look for jobs that are fulfilling, and work long hours to succeed. Managers can stand back and allow employees to just do their work. Is Theory X Ever the Right Way to Manage? Some managers cant get the Theory X management sty le out of their heads. Thats how you end up with micro-managers who judge employees based on facetime, ersatzdarsteller check everything employees do and control every aspect of the work process. This sounds like a terrible work environment. However, there are employees who need this kind of prodding from their manager. Some people dont do a good job and could care less about the business, the clients, or a job well done. The best outcome for your business is not to hire this type of person in the first place. But recognize that if your pay and prestige are low, you may end up with this type of workers more often than not. If thats the case, you may need to micro-manage the employees to get the work done, even if micromanaging doesnt lead to better employee engagement. When Theory X and Theory Y Run Into Conflict If you have employees who are intrinsically motivated and you treat them like they are slackers who wont work if you take your eyes off them, theyll hate you and quit. If you have employees who are slackers and you treat them like they are self-motivated, youll end up pulling your hair out when nothing gets done. Getting the right match between the managers management style and the need of each employee for supervision is one of the key secrets to business success. Some employees do need micro-managing. Other employees will not stand for a micro-manager. The best solution is to hire the right people all of the time employees who are intrinsically motivated and who you can trust to do the work without supervision. That, however, isnt always easy to do and you may find yourself with a team that needs a lot more managing than youd like to do. You can, however, through hard work, and the re-evaluation of tasks, help teach people to become more independent, but, its not an easy task. If you can succeed though, self-motivated employees are the best for your business. - Suzanne Lucas is a freelance writer who spent 10 years in corporate human resources, where she hired, fired, managed the numbers, and double-checked with the lawyers.

For those looking to learn how to write a perfect titel letter, look no further. Below are 10 valuable tips to guide you through the process from starting to finish, ensuring preparation of perfect cover letter that wows potential employers.1. Address the Cover Letter Correctly.First, you want to address your cover letter correctly to avoid the dreaded, To Whom It May Concern opening. Take the extra step by finding the name of the hiring manager/recruiter. A quick Google search, finding a person whos near to him or phone call is all you need.2. Use a Cover Letter Template.A cover letter template will serve as a starting point and provide a little guidance when writing. The layout of your letter must remain organized and professional.3. Identify Keywords Before Writing. This is on the list of 10 tips to write a perfect cover letter because it is often overlooked. Keywords are needed because they put more focus on the goal scoring an interview and ultimately, the position. As for how to select these keywords, focus on the skills required for the job to highlight that youre more than qualified, results-oriented keywords (initiated, updated, implemented, produced) and lastly, recognition keywords and phrases like recognized, received a naturalrabatt for, credit for, etc.4. Make the First Sentence Epic.Okay, maybe not epic but it must be impressive. Proactive approach is the best. Means try to answer that question which you may expect later on from your potential employer. Think of that first sentence as your sole opportunity to grab the r eaders attention. Dont be boring by opting to restate the position youre applying for. The hiring manager/recruiter already knows that. Instead, go with a bold, pitch-like approach. A mention of a network connection is equally effective. This point is the most important to put your maximum focus on it, as editing wouldnt be possible once you send it.5. Focus Your Cover Letter on the Company. This is your chance to distinguish yourself from other applicants while showing genuine interest in the company. Companies are looking for individuals who have something valuable to offer so focus on how you can make a difference while highlighting your best professional attributes.6. Do Not Recap Your Resume.Consider a cover letter as a precursor to the actual resume. Potential employers will venture past that first page, so theres no reason to provide a quick summary. Instead, it should be a unique read with a different focus. Again, a cover letter is your opportunity to intertwine presenting y ourself as an excellent candidate with what you can bring to the table for a specific company. For example, an insurance salesperson may want to mention how their confident and authoritative communication skills and passion for selling will help the company meet the 15% sales increase mentioned in their most recent press release. Another example would apply to those seeking a position in e-commerce retail. Stating how your experience with multi-channel retail can improve the companys current profit margin will surely make you a standout. When applying for positions, you must compose a letter for each. That is why cover letters are addressed to a specific recipient. They must be customized and designed for each position.7. Keep It Brief.Three paragraphs are all you need. Hiring managers/recruiters have several applicants to consider and, therefore, only spend about 10 seconds reading cover letters. Concise yet impactful is the goal. Paragraph one serves as the introduction, paragraph two is the body, and the third is the conclusion. To be more specific, paragraph one is where you hook your reader and share why youre interested in the position. As for the second paragraph, this is where you intertwine your passions and skills. More details can be found in tip eight along with a four-step quick guide. As for the conclusion, this is where you wrap your cover letter on a high note. Instead of the passive, I hope to hear from you soon, go for a strong ending like the phrases belowI will call you next Wednesday to follow up on my application and arrange for an interview. If offered this position, I am prepared to help Company 123 exceed its growth and expansion goals.I do not doubt that both my expertise and passion for this industry will grow due to the opportunities Company 123 provides to employees.8. Sell Your Personality.Another on the list of 10 tips to write a perfect cover letter is highlighting your positive traits. You want to do this in the second paragraph. Give employers some insight into your character as well as a peek of your passion for the position and where you excel in the workplace. All will make you a very worthy candidate.
